A small field guide

Small words, good company.

Learn a noun together with its article. Il sole, la luna, l’acqua: those little words help you recognise how a noun is used.

ilsolemasculine
lalunafeminine
l’acquafeminine

In l’acqua, la loses its a before the vowel: the apostrophe takes its place. Watch the difference between un amico (a male friend) and un’amica (a female friend): only the second needs an apostrophe.
