An initiative to establish a global stockpile of mpox vaccines was launched on 27 August. The joint announcement published by WHO on 2 September says operations are expected to begin later in the month: an announced milestone that still needs to be verified. [1]

The reserve, approved by Gavi’s board in 2025 and funded by the alliance, will be coordinated by the international ICG group. Its members are WHO, UNICEF, Médecins Sans Frontières and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The mechanism is designed to give all countries access to vaccines during outbreaks. [1]
