From 12 to 16 October, an Environment Agency trial used electric and hybrid machinery to move shingle from White Point in Eastbourne to North-east Beach at Sovereign Harbour. Its 21 October report describes a 22-tonne electric excavator, tipper trucks, hybrid bulldozers and 4×4 vehicles working on coastal flood and erosion protection. [1]

The trial examined productivity, reliability, batteries, energy use, charging and operators’ experience. The agency reports operational success and lower noise and air pollution, but does not publish a numerical emissions reduction. The trial is intended to inform future machinery choices; it does not establish that the entire fleet has already been replaced. [1]
