On 4 November, sixty years will have passed since Florence’s 1966 flood. On 28 October, the municipality published a commemoration programme developed with Tuscany’s regional government, the university and the metropolitan city, involving schools, exhibitions, research and city venues. [1]

A school competition called “Un vicino di casa, l’Arno” and a Red Cross exhibition at Santa Maria Novella are announced for 29 October. A conference about the river is planned for 2 November, followed from 3 November by the photography exhibition “Con la bici nel fango” at the university’s humanities library. The central commemorations fall on 4 November. [1]

This is a calendar of planned events, not a report that they have all taken place. Its public value lies in connecting memory, heritage and discussion of risk; the programme does not show that flood danger has been eliminated. [1]
