In 2024, among pension recipients aged 65 and over in the European Union, women’s average gross pension income was 24.5% lower than men’s. The gap ranged from 5.6% in Estonia to 40.3% in Malta. [1]

These figures compare averages: they do not show the amount received by each person or, by themselves, explain the causes of the difference. Eurostat includes old-age and survivors’ benefits and regular payments from individual private pension plans. The figures refer to 2024, not to a change observed today. [1]
